The Rotary Club of Wynberg was saddened to hear of the passing of Keith Richardson.
Keith spoke to the club on 21 May, with Tanya Townsend of the Principals’ Academy, on the work they do to empower key role players in schools across South Africa — work that goes to the heart of what this club cares about in education.
We extend our condolences to his family, to the Principals’ Academy, and to the Wynberg Boys’ Schools and Old Boys’ Union community.
May he rest in peace.

The club spent the first weekend of August on Goedgedacht, a farm in the Riebeek Valley, and took two guests along: Gary and Natalie Lord of the Rotary Club of Gaborone, in Botswana.
On the last evening, around the fire, Gary presented his club's banner to club president Stacy Edwards. Exchanging banners is one of Rotary's older habits, and a durable one — a small piece of cloth that leaves two clubs on opposite sides of a border knowing each other by name.
The farm is worth a word of its own. Goedgedacht dates to 1704 and has belonged to the Goedgedacht Trust since 1993; the profits from its accommodation go to the Trust's Path out of Poverty programme, which runs youth centres across the rural Swartland where farm children play sport, do their homework and eat a proper meal grown in the gardens on the property. The Rotary Club of Riebeek Valley holds its Mental Wellness Conference there. It made for a weekend where the bill did a little work of its own.
The rest of the weekend went much as these weekends do: a stop at YzerBru Craft Brewery, a tasting flight worked through with some diligence, lunch down one long communal table, and a fire that outlasted most of us. The photographs are in the gallery.
